The Birth of Isaac and Jesus

The Birth of Isaac and Jesus

Sermon Notes

Key Scriptures: Genesis 21; Luke 2

The births of Isaac and Jesus Christ were both promised by God and announced beforehand. God told Abraham that he and Sarah would have a son. The birth of their son Isaac is a picture of the resurrection of Christ. Out of apparent barrenness comes life. Through His prophet, God told the nation of Israel, "A virgin shall conceive and bring forth a son" (Isaiah 7:14). That prophesy was fulfilled "when the fullness of the time was come" and the savior, Jesus Christ, was born (Gal. 4:4).

There was a long interval between the promise and the fulfillment of both births. They both occurred at God's appointed time and not before. Here's the point...God keeps promises and He hasn’t forgotten about us. Just like we must wait to open presents until Christmas morning, we must wait for God’s perfect timing in our life.
