What is Discipleship Essentials Pathway?

New Vision’s mission is “Guiding People to Lives of Gospel Transformation.” Not only do we desire to lead people to Jesus, we also are called to equip them in the spiritual journey. The Discipleship Essentials Pathway is a seventeen module (one per year), age-appropriate discipleship plan designed to help parents and mentors disciple children, students, and young adults in their relationship with Jesus. Each year includes one module focused on a core truth of the Christian faith (like God, Jesus, or Holiness) from kindergarten through college.

  • Each module contains 12 monthly lessons, starting in August and ending in July.
  • Designed for use in homes, small groups, or individual study.
  • Each lesson includes: a Q&A truth, Bible story, devotional, memory verses, prayer prompts, and reflection questions or Next Steps.

For those who join the journey in middle school, high school, or after, the Pathway can be used as a catch-up resource or simply picked up where they are. Backtracking through previous modules is encouraged, but not required.

FAQs

Where can I grab the book for next year, and what's the best way to catch up?

The age-specific books are handed out each year starting in August through New Vision's age-graded ministries. Connect with your ministry team to get your copy. Need to catch up? You can download a digital version below.

As a new believer, can I start this at any point? Do I have to begin in kindergarten?

Yes, you can begin at any point. While the content is designed to build over time, each module is complete in itself and can be started anytime. You can even backtrack through earlier modules during breaks as a short-term intensive (for example, one unit per day or week without memory verses).

Can I walk my niece through this?

Absolutely. The Pathway is designed for use by any Christian mentor, parent, guardian, or relative. You don’t have to be a theologian, just willing to walk with someone through the content, ask questions, and grow together.

How often do I need to do this / how long will it take me to go through it?

The Pathway is designed for weekly family devotionals (about 15 minutes per session). Each month has one devotional and Bible story, with memory verses and prayer prompts for follow-up during subsequent weeks throughout the month. Flexibility is key; go at your own pace. If you miss a week, just pick back up next time.

What if I have multiple kids in different age groups? How do I use this with my whole family?

That’s a great opportunity! We recommend doing one child’s lesson each week—start with the youngest the first week of the month, then move to the next oldest in subsequent weeks. The rest of the family can still participate in the discussion and prayer, even if it’s not their grade level content.

What if I fall behind or miss a few weeks?

Don’t worry! The goal is long-term consistency, not perfection. Just pick up where you left off or resume with the current month's content. You can always catch up on missed content during breaks or summer.

Can students or young adults use this on their own?

Yes! The Pathway works for individuals too. Students and college-aged adults can walk through the material solo or with a mentor, small group leader, or friend. We encourage inviting someone to walk with you in discipleship if possible.

How does this align with what my child is learning at church?

The content is aligned with the Bible translations and teaching themes used in New Vision’s age-graded ministries. It’s meant to complement church teaching and reinforce core truths at home.

Do I need to be a Bible expert to use this with my child or student?

Not at all. The guide is written in clear language with supportive tools like definitions, discussion questions, and prayer prompts. You are simply helping guide the conversation and model faith. The goal is to grow together!
