At New Vision, we want every individual to learn about God and grow in his or her relationship with Him, no matter what unique challenges they may face. We see every challenge as an opportunity to trust God and see Him do BIG things. That is why we have our Special Needs Ministry. The Special Needs Ministry at New Vision works with individuals from all ages and backgrounds.

What to Expect

It is our hope and goal to be able to minister to every family that comes to New Vision, and for the experience to be great. We have a setup and intake process that involves parents completing an Information Packet and our staff working to match each child with a buddy. In some cases, this process may take a few weeks.

A Buddy is a leader whose one-on-one focus is on their child with special needs. Buddies are trained to work with the child and their specific needs. Through an inclusion process, the child will stay with their peers unless they need a break for any reason. We want each child to have a consistent buddy or pair of buddies where relationship is fostered, trust is gained, and love is nurtured.

Our goal in the Preschool Ministry each week is to engage all children in Bible stories, developmentally appropriate activities, and a music time. In each room, the Leaders have a specific schedule that allows free choice centers, story time, snack time, and music. All children are encouraged to build community in the classroom. If at any time your child needs to take a walk or be removed from the class, their buddy will assist.

Each Preschool room has a connected bathroom attached. Changing tables are available where needed. Classroom leaders and buddies can change diapers as needed, but a parent’s instructions and permission is required. A snack is provided during the 8:20 and 9:40 hours. Snack lists are posted each week. Special snacks due to allergies or feeding needs can be sent in a bag for your child.

Children spend the first 30 minutes in large group and the remaining 30 minutes in small group. During large group, children worship God through music and listen to an interactive Bible story that points back to the Gospel. During small group, children move to their classrooms and participate in hands-on activities with their peers to dive deeper into the Bible story. We work specifically with our children with special needs to ensure that they get the most out of both large group and small group. If noise is an issue, we have headphones for children to wear. We provide a sensory box for each of our special needs children to have during their time with us.

Respite Night

Four times a year, we offer a Respite Night at New Vision Battlefield. This program is for families with children who have special needs and their siblings, ages 6 weeks to 16 years old. Our hope is to provide a fun night out for parents and children with special needs in our community. Volunteers from our church and the community will care for your child(ren) during Respite Night. This ministry is open to the community. There is no charge, but an application is required.

2019 Respite Night Schedule

Respite Nights will be offered from
6:00-10:00 pm on the following Friday nights:
April 12th
September 13th
November 8th

To participate, you’ll need to COMPLETE our APPLICATION.

Please return completed application to the church office or email to Shawn Newport. A member of the Special Needs Ministry will contact you to go over the forms, determine if we are able to meet your child's needs, and discuss Respite Night policies and rules. If you are not a member of or familiar with New Vision, you can schedule a meeting to tour our facilities. Early reservations are required so we can arrange for enough volunteers.
